Drowning is the leading cause of death in young children. The shocking truth is that 70% of these drownings don’t happen at the pool. They happen when kids aren’t even swimming. This deadly misconception has been overlooked for too long.

On World Drowning Prevention Day, we launched The Clothes They Wore. Instead of swimsuits, the campaign displayed the real, everyday clothes children drowned in paired with the voices of grieving parents. The message was devastatingly clear: it can happen to anyone, anywhere, at any time.

In the end, Congress committed to a national child drowning prevention initiative. The Clothes They Wore transformed overlooked tragedy into urgent national action proving that even the smallest items of clothing can carry the heaviest truth to spark change.
